Minister celebrates as Canada opens market for Brazil beef

Brazil’s Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply Tereza Cristina celebrated Monday (Mar. 14) Canada’s move to allow beef and port imports from Brazil into the country.

“Great news for our agribusiness. Canada, one of the world’s most important markets, has authorized the beginning of Brazil-produced beef and pork exports, driving the number of markets opened by the ministry under Bolsonaro’s istration to over 200,” she wrote on Twitter.

In Canada on a mission since last weekend, Minister Tereza Cristina added she still has a number of meetings on the import of Brazilian fertilizers today.

Ranking fourth among the globe’s consumers of fertilizers, ing for eight percent of the total, and the world’s number one importer, Brazil is seeking new markets for fertilizers, since Russia, the country’s main supplier, has come under global sanctions as a result of the war in Ukraine.

Brazil imports approximately 85 percent of all fertilizers used in domestic agriculture. For potassium, the imported percentage stands at some 95 percent.
