Brazil wins 66 medals in international Paralympic swimming tournament
The swimming test event took place in the Olympic Aquatics Stadium in Rio de Janeiro - 
Brazil ended this Sunday (Apr. 24) the third day of the International Open, event to prepare for the Paralympic Games, and won 13 medals: three gold, four silver and six bronze. In total, the country mounted the podium 66 times: 14 times for the first places, 22 for second, and 30 for third. A total of 212 athletes from 19 countries have participated in the International Open.
At the closing ceremony, two of the best Brazilian Paralympic swimmers confirmed their favoritism. André Brasil and Daniel Dias received the gold medal in their individual swimming events, the 50 meter freestyle, and ended the competition with good expectations for the months before Rio-2016 Paralympic Games, scheduled for September 7 to 18.
The Brazilian team will participate in swimming competitions in Paralympics with 32 athletes, and Leonardo Tomasello, coach of the Brazilian national team, expects all athletes to enter the competition with chances to receive medals.
"Our job now is to help these athletes arrive here during the games fighting for positive results. We're taking part in the competition with the largest delegation. Therefore, the chances of medals are higher and considering the fact that we are swimming in our country, with the warmth of fans, in crowded gyms, can lead the Paralympic swimming team to deliver its best performance in the history of games," said Tomasello.
