The mayor of Salvador, Bruno Reis, announced this Monday (29) the cancellation of the New Year's Eve party in the capital of Bahia. He reported having made a careful evaluation based on the emergence of the new Ômicron variant and the increase in covid-19 cases in European countries. "I know the importance of the event for the economy of our city, but we continue to put people's lives first," he said on a social network.
Regarding the Carnival festivities, considered one of the most traditional in the country, the mayor declared that he will take the decision together with the state government, "considering all the security and caution necessary for the moment", he said.
